Something significant is about to happen this week with Superman. James Gunn's adaptation of Superman, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult, has now debuted with its first poster. Additionally, Gunn confirmed that they will unveil the film's first trailer on Thursday, later this week. This will provide us with our first glimpse of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Lex Luthor returning to action after an extended absence. Expected to arrive in theatres on July 11, 2025, the film will showcase a more experienced Clark Kent, balancing his roles as Superman and journalist at the Daily Planet in Metropolis.
Superman will feature an extensive cast of heroes and supporting characters, including Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Metamorpho (Anthony Carrigan), Mr. Terrific (Edi Gathigi), Jimmy Olsen (Skyler Gisondo), Eve Teschmacher (Sara Sampaio), Perry White (Wendell Pierce), and many more. In addition to producing the film with Peter Safran, Gunn also serves as co-CEO of DC Studios and directs it from a screenplay he penned.
During an interview with Josh Horowitz on his podcast Happy, Sad, Confused last week, Gunn teased that audiences would see a previously unseen side of Superman in the film. The filmmaker expressed his belief that the big science fiction Silver Age Superman aspects featured in his movie have never been seen before. Fans have never seen this specific part of Superman's life, but they will see it when the movie comes out.
Gunn hinted that the film's Lex Luthor would be Superman's greatest adversary thus far, and he said that Hoult's presence would elevate him to the status of an equal. The filmmaker went on to say that people have never seen Nick as the Lex that he is, and he is quite the presence. As a result, one may think, "Oh f**k, poor Superman." The screen never depicts that. Because Lex is so intelligent and skilled, there are occasions when people will think, "Oh, Superman is f**ked," when reading the comics. They know Lex isn't someone they want on their side, but in the movies, they think, "Lex is about to get f**ked."
On July 11, 2025, Superman will soar into cinemas. View the first poster and mark Thursday of this week on your calendars for the trailer's release.
