Thaneer Mathan Dinangal director Girish AD’s sophomore venture Super Sharanya won the hearts of youth for telling a simple story in his trademark fashion. The Anaswara Rajan, Mamitha Baiju and Arjun Ashokan-starrer, which released in theatres in January, is now gearing up for its OTT release.
The makers of the movie have sold its digital rights to ZEE5. The deal is to premiere the movie on ZEE Malayalam and its OTT platform simultaneously. ZEE5 had recently also acquired the rights for Asif Ali’s Ellam Sheriyaakum and Kunjeldho, which is expected to release in March .
Super Sharanya revolves around the titular character, essayed by Anaswara, who joins an engineering college in Thrissur, paving way for a remarkable change of setting from her village in Palakkad. Through her interactions with her friends and the men trying to woo her, Sharanya finds her voice and comes into her own as the years pass by.
The film has Mamitha Baiju playing Sharanya’s batchmate and best friend Sona, while Arjun Ashokan essays the role of her boyfriend. Thaneer Mathan Dinangal’s Naslen is also part of the film, which has Vineeth Vishwam, Vineeth Vasudevan, Varun Dhara and Sajin Cherukayil. Angamaly Diaries and Ajagajantharam actor Antony Varghese and Kani Kusruti also appear in cameo roles in the comedy-entertainer.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, the film’s director Girish had told us the film was comparatively easier for him to make compared to Thaneer Mathan Dinangal, which had Mathew Thomas, Anaswara, Naslen and Vineeth Sreenivasan as part of the cast. “I believe I have tried to improve on the cinematography. This is a continuous process; even after watching the final version of Super Sharanya, I have felt there are areas where I could have done better,” he said.
The movie is currently scheduled to release on ZEE5 in the first week of March, but there has been official confirmation regarding this yet.
