After having won a few local stand-up competitions, Kapil Sharma catapulted himself into the big league of extraordinary comedians after he got an opportunity to host a show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’, a show that made him a household name. Besides Kapil Sharma, the show had Navjyot Singh Sidhu as the judge (who was later replaced by Archana Puran Singh).

Even though there were many other comics on the show, the one who left a remarkable impact on the minds of the viewers was Sunil Grover, who stole everyone’s hearts and attention with his multi portrayal of characters like Dr. Mashoor Gulati, Gutthi etc… The success of the show started getting the entire Kapil Sharma’s team to perform shows in India as well as abroad. It was on one such flight that became home to a reportedly ugly spat between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover.

The latest ‘update’ on the by-now-infamous spat between Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover was ‘revealed’ by the latter during the media conference which was held today to announce the launch of the show ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’. Speaking at the media meet, Sunil Grover went on to address the question which many were seemingly dying to ask him- the ugly spat with Kapil Sharma that took place mid-air.
Speaking about the incident, Sunil Grover said that, “Uss time pe Netflix India mein naya naya aaya tha toh hume laga ki television ki audience ko baandh ke rakhne ke liye kuch karna padega” (At that time, Netflix had just come / launched newly in India and we thought that we needed to do something to get the television audiences glued to the television sets).
He added that was how they came up with an idea of having a fight as a publicity stunt. Elaborating it furthermore, Sunil said that just before he was about to board a flight, Kapil Sharma’s team had come up to him to seek ideas to promote the show and that was how the whole idea of having a fight / spat was born and executed!
While many people knew that this reasoning was surely miles away from the truth, it did evoke a few chuckles and laughter and claps from the audiences present there. The ‘impact’ of his reasoning was that he himself was not able to control his laughter soon after he narrated the story behind the spat which had taken place between him and Kapil Sharma.
As for ‘The Great Indian Kapil Show’, besides Kapil Sharma and Sunil Grover, its stars will have Archana Puran Singh, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, and Rajiv Thakur as its principal cast. The show is all set to premiere on Netflix from March 30, 2024.
