Speaking out recently, Suniel Shetty discussed the Boycott Bollywood movement, which peaked in 2022. A particular group of social media users initiated the trend each time a high-profile movie, such as Brahmastra, Liger, or Laal Singh Chaddha, was set to release. The actor described it as a horrible phase and said that, at the time, it didn't even make sense because those trolls were no longer in existence.
Suniel Shetty on 'Boycott Bollywood' trend
Suniel Shetty addressed his opinions on the "Boycott Bollywood" movement in an interview with ANI. “I think it was just a phase, a movement that came and went", he said. Adding, "Lots of things were happening with Bollywood and '#Boycott Bollywood' was a viral trend, a big movement that was causing further damage to what was already happening in our industry at the time.”
He also recalled addressing Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, that some even blame God that we are only human and that he took it very well.
Furthermore, the actor asked, "Where are all these trolls now? Does the hashtag exist anymore?" Posting #BoycottBollywood memes on social media with only a few people is absurd these days. When it first started going viral, it didn't even make sense. "I believe it was just a phase that we rode out. We just went through a bad patch," Shetty continued.
