Sundar C is an established filmmaker in Tamil cinema and has delivered gems such as Arunachalam and Anbe Sivam with superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan. But over the years, the filmmaker has found comfort in working with young stars and has not worked with superstars for a while. During a promotional interview for his upcoming horror drama Aranmanai 4, the director-actor opened about the real reason why he stopped ‘chasing big stars’.
“I think I have survived because I have saved my individuality over the years. I have worked with big names in the industry, but at the end of the day, the script is what I am looking forward to the most. And secondly, a cast that is apt for the script. I don't do films for the hero. The hero has to be apt enough to play the character,” the director explained.
“I have never altered a script for an actor’s convenience. To me, I need to like the script first and then who would be good enough to pull off the character, this is how I approach filmmaking. The actor can be a young talent, a newcomer or even a superstar,” he added.
He further said that he doesn't want to ‘ride anybody’s stardom’ and make films catering to the actor’s heroism.
Meanwhile, the actor-director’s upcoming film Aranmanai 4, which is part of his Aranamanai film series will soon hit the big screens on April 11. The film, headlined by Tamannaah Bhatia, revolves around a husband and wife. The trailer showcases the happy couple facing a traumatic incident leading to the death of the husband (played by Santhosh) due to cardiac arrest while entering a forest. His wife, (Tamannaah’s character) is also shown dying by suicide. Sundar C, who plays her brother’s character, senses foul play in her suicide and is determined to find the truth. What happens next forms the crux of the story.
Apart from Tamannaah and Sundar C, the film also stars an ensemble of star cast, including Raashii Khanna, Ramachandra Raju, Kovai Sarala, Yogi Babu, K. S. Ravikumar, Jayaprakash, VTV Ganesh, Delhi Ganesh, Rajendran and Singampuli in key roles.
