Arjun Ashokan, who was recently seen in the investigative thriller Anand Sreebala, will be headlining the film titled Sumathi Valavu. The makers took to social media to announce that the film started rolling on Saturday (November 30).
The film, which is touted to have horror and fantasy elements, is directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar, who had previously helmed the popular Malikappuram.
Apart from Arjun Ashokan, Sumathi Valavu also features actor-filmmaker Sidharth Bharathan in a pivotal role. In a collab post with Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan shared the poster of Sumathi Valavu while stating that the film started rolling in Palakkad. Take a look at the eerie poster here:
Along with Arjun Ashokan, Sidharth Bharathan, Balu Varghese and Saiju Kurup are also part of the cast. Malavika Manoj, Gokul Suresh, Niranj Maniyanpillai, Shyam Mohan, and Devanandha of Malikappuram-fame will also be seen in other key supporting roles. On the technical front, Dineshkumar Purushothaman serves as the cinematographer, while Ranjin Raj has composed the soundtrack for the film.
For Sumathi Valavu, director Vishnu Sasi Shankar is teaming up with his Malikappuram writer Abhilash Pillai. Malikappuram, starring Unni Mukundan along with Deva Nandha, and Sreepath, narrates the tale of eight-year-old Kallu who wishes to go to the Sabarimala temple. The film, which had a successful run at the box office, is available for streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.
Sumathi Valavu is reportedly based on local folklore about the infamous place from Thiruvananthapuram. Meanwhile, Arjun Ashokan’s latest film Anand Sreebala released in theatres on November 15. The film, which also featured Sangita Madhavan Nair who is best known for Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala, is based on real events. However, the film failed to impress the audiences or critics.
