Anirban Bhattacharya is all geared up to be back as Byomkesh on Hoichoi in season 8. Based on Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana, the new season, Byomkesh O Pinjrapol, is directed by Sudipto Roy.
This will be Kia and Cosmos-famed Sudipto’s first Byomkesh. Anirban, who has been a part of the project since season one, has worked as a creative director-cum-showrunner this season. “This mad rush to make Byomkesh did not start when the offer came to me. Anirban has been there since the time we started working on the script. It was a delight to work with Anirban, who is perhaps the most talented actor in this generation. Pratik (Dutta), who also penned the script of Ballabhpurer Roopkotha, has co-written the script and we three became a good team,” said the director.
Sudipto explained that there will be a fresh look and feel of Byomkesh this season. “It is a period film and it followed Sharadindu’s original story keenly. Even then we tried to do it differently,” he said. Elaborating on this he said, “Byomkesh does not wear the typical dhoti-kurta that we are so used to watching. Along with the dhoti-kurta, shirts, and trousers were also a common sartorial choice for men during that period. Hence, there is a change in the overall costume wardrobe. There is no Golap Colony in this Byomkesh O Chiriyakhana. Instead, we have Pinjrapol. What is Pinjrapole is something you will need to watch,” he said.
In this season, while Anirban and Ridhima Ghosh play Byomkesh and Satyabati, Bhashwar Chatterjee will be introduced as Ajit. “I think Bhashwar fits into the character very well. Since Ajit used to be slightly older than Byomkesh, as per the author, Bhashwar and Anirban look perfect, Besides, I worked with a bunch of very talented actors and actresses. They are new and we went through long auditions. I am so happy to be able to work with them. I hope to work with them again,” said Sudipto.
