Sudipta Chakraborty to play Noti Binodini on stage

Sudipta Chakraborty returns to the stage in the role of Noti Binodini. Noti Binodini, who is still relevant 81 years after her death, has been played many times on stage, on television, and in films. Now Abanti Chakraborty brings this iconic character back on stage. 

Sudipta broke the news on social media and wrote, “This is a dream come true for me. Noti Binodini's dream was not fulfilled. This generation, especially the new-age actors and future actors know very little of her. If this drama, made in opera format and played by some best actors in theatre, can come to help, our effort will be successful.” 

The play will be first staged on 8 March, International Working Women's Day, at the Academy of Fine Arts. 

Binodini started acting at the age of 12. After ruling the stage for twelve years, she bid farewell to theatre at the age of twenty-four. The play will portray the acting career of Binodini, who had been deprived throughout her life. The director told Anandabazar Online, “Surprisingly, I did not talk with Sudipta. I was mesmerised seeing her at the rehearsal. She gave her best.” The script is based on Binodini's autobiography Amar Kotha, along with other books. 

Sujan Mukhopadhyay, Padmanava Dasgupta, and Abhijit Guha will also act in the play. Sujan Mukhopadhyay will play Gurmukh Roy, Padmanava will play Kumar Bahadur, and Abhijit Guha will play Girish Ghosh.
