Stree 3: Dinesh Vijan confirms 'Thanos' Akshay Kumar's return to the Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao starrer

In 2024, Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao's film Stree 2 took the box office by storm with its hilarious and gripping content. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the horror-comedy also starred Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, Pankaj Tripathi, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Anya Singh. Interestingly, the second installment of Stree also saw special appearances by Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan. Akki's cameo in Stree 2 impressed the audience and they are now eagerly waiting for the third installment to be released. But will Akshay be a part of Stree 3? Read on...

Akshay Kumar to be a part of Maddock's horror-comedy universe?

Today, January 5, Akshay Kumar, Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, Veer Pahariya, and others were seen attending the trailer launch event of their upcoming film, Sky Force. During the media interaction, talks about Stree 3 and the revival of Akshay's character in the horror-comedy series were initiated. Akshay funnily said that Sky Force marks his ‘dedh’ collaboration with Dinesh Vijan. Further, on being asked about his involvement in Maddock's horror-comedy universe and whether will he be a part of it, the Welcome actor said, "What can I say? Dinesh and Jyoti (Deshpande; producer) will have to decide that. They’re the ones to pump in the money. Aur Amar Kaushik ko direct karna hai."

Dinesh Vijan, who was also present at the launch event, called Akshay 'Thanos' while confirming the actor's presence in future films. He said, "Of course, he’s a part of the universe! He’s our Thanos." 

Akshay Kumar's character in Stree 2

In Stree 2, which went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024, Akshay plays a patient in a psychiatric hospital who is the only person with the key to defeating the film's main villain, Sarkata. The film ended on a cliffhanger with Akshay's character being possessed by Sarkata's spirit. It will be interesting to see how the makers will further elevate the plot. Stree 3 starring Rajkummar and Shraddha will hit cinemas 13th August 2027. 

Recently, Maddock Films announced 8 films in the horror-comedy universe. Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna's Thama will be released on Diwali 2025 while Shakti Shalini is set for 31st December 2025. The year 2026 will see Varun Dhawan's Bhediya 2 on August 14 and Chamunda on the 4th of December. It will be followed by Stree 3 in 2027 and Maha Munjya on December 24, Pehla Mahayudh on August 11, 2028, and Doosra Mahayudh on October 18, 2028.
