In the age of the Coronavirus quarantine, remote education and hybrid workforces, many more of us are relying on streaming platforms in search of distraction, escape or just plain entertainment. With a new month comes new possibilities, talent, collaborations and shiny new releases for us to get lost in.

From the much-awaited part two of the new season of Stranger Things on Netflix to a horror series starring Regina Cassandra on Aha, here is a list of what’s releasing this month across platforms.

When: July 1

The epic 2-part season finale of Stranger Things 4 stars Millie Bobby Brown, Noah Schnapp, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Natalia Dyer, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.

The comedy sees Lana Condor play an introverted highschool senior who decides to seize the day and have some fun, only to wake up as a ghost.

When: July 8

Ranveer Singh and adventurer Bear Grylls brave the Serbian wilderness in search of a rare flower. In this interactive special, viewers decide what choices the actor makes at every step of the way.

When: July 15

A small-town magician (Jitendra Kumar) must prove his worth in an inter-colony football tournament. The catch – he has no athletic skills and his team has never won a game. This sports comedy also stars Jaaved Jaaferi.

Years after she succumbed to pressure from her snobbish family and rejected Frederick Wentworth (Cosmo Jarvis), Anne Elliot (Dakota Johnson) must contend with him waltzing back into her life in this adaptation of the Jane Austen novel.

A skilled CIA operative (Ryan Gosling) unwittingly uncovers the agency’s secrets, leading a psychopathic former colleague (Chris Evans) to launch a global manhunt for him. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film is based on the 2009 novel of the same name by Mark Greaney.

A Navy SEAL (Chris Pratt) remains the sole survivor of an ambush that wipes out the rest of his platoon, only to discover a larger conspiracy at play.

Nagesh Kukunoor, Venkatesh Maha, Uday Gurrala, Devika Bahudhanam and direct six short films about love in this Hyderabad-set adaptation of the popular New York Times Modern Love column.

A single father (John Cho) discovers that he is terminally ill and so convinces his teenage daughter (Mia Isaac) to accompany him on a road trip from California to New Orleans, secretly hoping to reunite her with the mother who abandoned them years ago.

Billy Porter makes his feature film directorial debut with this coming-of-age story about a trans girl (Eva Reign) and the classmate (Abubkar Ali) who decides to ask her out.

Karan Johar’s popular celebrity chat show returns for its seventh season. Expect drama, gossip and the last Bollywood scoop.

When: July 15

The show traces the creation of an elite task force, put together to defend India against national threats.

When: July 29

The Hindi remake of Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila stars Janhavi Kapoor, Deepak Dobriyal, Mita Vashisht, Neeraj Sood, and Sushant Singh.

This six-episode psychological thriller stars Taron Egerton as a convicted footballer who can choose to either be incarcerated at a maximum-security prison and befriend serial killer Larry Hall (Paul Walter Hauser) to find out where his victims are buried, or serve a 10-year sentence with no possibility of parole.

A traumatic head injury leaves Sophie (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) with extreme memory loss. Her friends and husband attempt to help her put the pieces of the puzzle back together but not everything adds up.

Mike Mills’ black-and-white film revolves around a softspoken radio journalist (Joaquin Phoenix), who is entrusted with the care of his young nephew.

Eva Husson’s first English-language film follows a housekeeper who is having an affair with the next-door neighbour. Based on Graham Swift’s novel of the same name, it stars Olivia Colman, Colin Firth, Josh O’Connor and Odessa Young.

Paul Verhoeven’s film follows two 17th century nuns at an Italian convent, who embark on romance that puts them both in danger.

Directed by Andrew Dominik as companion piece to his 2016 documentary One More Time With Feeling, it explores the creative relationship between Australian musicians Nick Cave and Warren Ellis.

The human body has gained the ability to transform and mutate, which celebrity artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) turns into a piece of performance art.

After doing the festival circuit, including the International Film Festival Rotterdam and Sheffield Doc Fest in 2020, singer Sona Mohapatra’s documentary gets its world premiere on ZEE5.
