The streaming services have forever changed how the majority of us watch movies. Earlier, movies were once-in-a-week affair. But, thanks to the combination of smartphones, affordable data and streaming platforms, now movies occupy most of our spare time. It can, at times, feel overwhelming to choose the right movie from the seemingly endless options across various OTT platforms.

However, here are five new arrivals on streaming services that should be on your watchlist this weekend.

Bhakshak:

Bhakshak stands out among the new arrivals on streaming this week. While others had a theatrical run for at least a few weeks, this is set to premiere directly on Netflix this Friday. If you're in the mood for something original, untouched by varying reviews and opinions, then Bhakshak is the right pick. Judging from the trailer, Bhakshak promises to be a terrific nail-biter , raising important questions. The film, inspired by true events, revolves around the lone battle of a brave reporter risking everything to expose powerful criminals who have sexually exploited children in an orphanage. It sheds light on the detrimental effects of the nexus between criminals and media complacency, leading society into darkness. Based on the trailer, Bhumi Pednekar is set to impress with her performance. The film is helmed by Pulkit.

Bhakshak premieres on Netflix on February 9.

Guntur Kaaram:

Guntur Kaaram was one of the most awaited reunions of director Trivikram Srinivas and Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu. Following the success of their maiden collaboration Athadu, the duo has not had much luck at the box office. Their second collaboration, Khaleja, in 2010, fell short of audience expectations and was a commercial flop. However, it gained a cult following in later years. Similarly, Guntur Kaaram, released during Sankranti this year, failed to impress the theatre-going audiences. Only time will tell if it will strike a chord with streaming patrons. If you are in the mood for a quintessential Telugu family drama with a generous dose of hero-worshipping, Guntur Kaaram will fit the bill. Besides Mahesh Babu, the movie boasts of a stellar supporting cast, including Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Ramya Krishna, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, and Jagapathi Babu.

Guntur Kaaram will debut on Netflix on February 9.

Kaatera:

It's noteworthy that many wondered if Kaatera could brave the challenges posed by pan-India mammoths like Salaar and Dunki during its initial theatrical release last December. However, the film's lead star Darshan was very confident in the film's ability to connect with the audience. His belief paid off huge dividends as the film went on to earn more than Rs 100 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. Directed by Tharun Sudhir, Kaatera is a period drama that revolves around a rebellion led by a man from a marginalized class against his oppressors. The film also stars Jagapathi Babu, Kumar Govind, Vinod Kumar Alwa, Danish Akhtar Saifi, and Shruti.

Kaatera will preimeire on ZEE5 on Febraury 9. It will also be available on OTTplay Premium .

Aylaan:

If you are in the mood for some mindless comedy, then look no further than Aylaan. Starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, it took more than eight years for the filmmakers to turn this vision into reality. Judging from the trailer, it is clear that Aylaan will be on the same wavelength as Sivakarthikeyan's family-friendly comedies during the early days of his career. The film revolves around the struggles of an alien who gets stranded in Chennai city. With a powerful villain in pursuit, the friendly alien's only hope is a set of three average Joes with no discerning skills.

Aylaan will start streaming on SunNXT on Febraury 9. It will also be available on OTTplay Premium .

Captain Miller:

Captain Miller is one of the biggest films in Dhanush's career. It has a bigger scale and larger canvas compared to his other previous films in Tamil. Set against the backdrop of colonial India, the film reinterprets the experience of living under British oppression through the lens of a historically oppressed community. Written and directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film follows the journey of Analeesan aka Captain Miller, a former member of the British Indian army who transforms into a nightmare for the Empire. Besides Dhanush, the film also stars Shiva Rajkumar, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Aditi Balan, Sundeep Kishan, Edward Sonnenblick and John Kokken.

Captain Miller will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on February 9.
