It was veteran actor Sarath Babu's death anniversary on Wednesday (May 22). The actor, who predominantly worked in Tamil and Telugu film industries, has appeared in over 300 films and a recipient of many awards. Sarath Babu made his final film appearance in the 2023 crime thriller Por Thozhil. The film, directed by Vignesh Raja, starred Ashok Selvan and Sarathkumar in the lead roles. Sarath Babu played the role of Kennedy, a red herring placed in the narrative to find who is the serial killer in the film.

Por Thozhil follows the investigation of series of murders of young girls in a similar pattern, headed by police duo played by Ashok Selvan and Sarath Kumar. Late actor Sarath Babu played a pivotal role in the film. The film was critically acclaimed upon its release. It is now available for streaming on SonyLIV and OTTplay Premium.

Por Thozhil director remembers Sarath Babu

Vignesh Raja made his directorial debut with Por Thozhil. Recently taking to X (formerly Twitter), the director remembered working with Sarath Babu and wrote how his casting was crucial for the film. “Hours before my first meeting with late Mr Sarath Babu to narrate the script of Por Thozhil, one of my producers CV Sarathi told me 'if we do not get Sarath Babu, we do not have a movie." We all know how critical it was to get him on board. He was going to be our trump card,” Vignesh Raja wrote.

Sharing photos of himself with the late actor, the director also said that they shot 12 days with him and it was a learning curve for him and how he was a director's delight while shooting amid difficult locations and odd times.
