SS Rajamouli is leaving no stone unturned to give a huge push for RRR's chances at the Oscars by touring abroad extensively to spread the word about the film. While the director has already hinted at the possibility of a sequel to the historical fiction drama, he surprised crowds by also discussing about the idea of Baahubali 3. However, beyond those projects, his immediate focus is the script for his next film with Mahesh Babu, an adventure saga.
In a recent interview, the filmmaker spilled the beans about the movie. "My father (Vijayendra Prasad) writes for most of my films. He, my cousin (SS Kanchi) and I have begun developing a story couple of months ago. It's an adventure story and I wanted to do it for a long time. Indiana Jones is one of my all-time favourite movies and I wanted to blend them with the world of Dan Brown's novels (I love them). I'm trying to figure out a globe-trotting adventure in that space," he said.
"It's (adventure film) what we're planning next but it's still in the early writing stages," Rajamouli added. The untitled film will be produced by KL Narayana under Sri Durga Arts, who'd earlier backed films like Kshana Kshanam and Santhosham. While Mahesh Babu is currently working on a film with director Trivikram Srinivas alongside Pooja Hegde, he's expected to commence his prep for SS Rajamouli's film by May or June 2023.
Variance Films, which had distributed RRR, has sought a direct nomination for the film at the Oscars across multiple categories - including acting, music, song, cinematography, production design and VFX. RRR had recently released in Japan and is said to be performing well at the box office after a slow start. The film, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, had music by MM Keeravaani, with cinematography and production design by K Senthil Kumar and Sabu Cyril. RRR is available for streaming on ZEE5, Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix.
