When filmmaker Srinivasa Raju, best known for his action-packed, violent films like Kote, Shivam and the Dandupalya series, announced a film with Golden Star Ganesh, it was, at first thought that the collaboration would result in an image makeover of sorts. But then they revealed that they were doing a film playing on Ganesh’s strength as a romantic drama specialist. A family entertainer love story – that’s what the duo has in store for audiences when Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi hits theatres on August 15. Romantic dramas are, in fact, a personal favourite for the director and he says he would have experimented with the genre at some point.

Ganesh has been quoted as saying that he was blown away by the climax in Srinivasa Raju’s narrative – that a love story could be told in the filmmaker’s unique style. Now, the filmmaker has said that the reason he chose to work with Ganesh was because there’s no one else that could have done justice to the role.

According to Srinivasa Raju, had Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar still been around, it would have been a different story, but today, Ganesh is the only one who can convincingly carry a film in this genre. The director wanted his film to revolve around the hero and 10 heroines, but then felt that it would be way too experimental and reduced the number of leading ladies. And yet, at some point, there are 10 girls with Ganesh.

The film also sees Srinivasa Raju collaborate with music composer Arjun Janya again. Arjun was busy with his own directorial debut, but at Srinivasa Raju’s request took a week to compose the 6 songs for the film, three of which have been released so far and done well, just as the filmmaker hoped. Songs are, after all, the invitation card for a love story. The fact that Arjun is now a filmmaker himself has made Srinivasa Raju’s job easier, as he understands what is required of him even better.

Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi will release in theatres along with Powder, which is the KRG-TVF collaboration and Gowri.
