Nearly two months after its theatrical release, Srikanth is all set for its OTT premiere. Netflix will release the film, starring Rajkummar Rao in the titular role, on July 5, 2024, following its May release this year. The biopic follows the story of Bollant Industries founder and visually handicapped entrepreneur Srikanth Bolla. Tushar Hiranandani directs this film, which stars Jyothika, Alaya F, and Sharad Kelkar alongside Rajkummar Rao. The film was somewhat successful at the box office.

Srikanth Bolla's story

This biography follows the life of Srikanth, an entrepreneur from India who rose to fame in 2012 as the brain behind Bollant Industries, a firm that employs people with disabilities and others without formal training to make environmentally conscious goods. The protagonist of this film is a visually impaired man from the village of Seetharamapuram in Machilipatnam, India's then-undivided Andhra Pradesh. Despite facing many challenges, he manages to accomplish outstanding things, as shown in the film. In Hyderabad, the story takes a turn when he enrols at a special school, where he excels until his haughtiness gets the best of him. Even though he scored a perfect 100 in science, his teacher Devika (Jyotika) takes him under her wing and guides him through the legal process of requesting science as a course. After the Indian Institute of Technology rejects him, she encourages him to apply abroad. He becomes the first visually impaired student to attend MIT, thanks to his acceptance to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After he finishes college, his girlfriend, Swati (Alaya), encourages him to go back to India and live out his dreams. Once again, with the support of his mentor, he launches a computer institute—another failure. He eventually teams up with Ravi Mantha to start Bollant Industries, an organisation that employs primarily people with disabilities.

Rajkummar Rao's perspective

Earlier, in an interview with PTI, Rajkummar discussed working on a biopic about Srikanth, stating that he didn't have much planning because his current role in the film is ideal. The actor only cares about that character and tale, and the future holds much more for him. Two or three years ago, Rajkummar didn't think he could accomplish Srikanth, but he did. The actor is more hungry and fired as an actor nowadays, and he will face more difficult characters.

He went on to say that a biopic depicts a real-life character, and not everyone knows that character. There will always be comparisons, and achieving perfection will garner admiration, as people will marvel at how accurately the character has been portrayed on screen. But hitting it wrong is a significant challenge. While it's not a duty, one owes the character they're portraying, as his friends have known him for a considerable amount of time, and there's a debt to his existence.

In India, on its opening weekend, the film made ₹11.95 crore net. The film's excellent reviews and word-of-mouth promotion have kept it afloat at the box office, and as of June 17, 2024, it has earned ₹59.58 crore in India and ₹3.34 crore internationally, for a grand total of ₹62.92 crore.
