One of the biggest mysteries on the planet at this point is what Chul-Su’s entry into the Squid Game universe means for the surviving players and Gi-hun. In case you don’t remember, Chul-Su is the male doll who joined Young-hee in the post-credit scene of the second season, promising a third season arrival in 2025. But what does Chul-Su signify for the show? This cannot simply be a complex Red Light, Green Light game. The players already participated in this game during the second season, and the third is a continuation of the same games. So what does it mean? Well, a viral theory might hold the answer to this mystery.

Squid Game 2 Mid-Credits Decoded

After the credits roll, a mid-credit scene shows contestants—Players 096, 100, and 353—entering Red Light, Green Light in a new sunset backdrop. Player 100, if you recall, is the man with a 10 billion won debt who was most in favor of continuing the games. They all see the giant Young-hee doll standing in a field that now looks very different. But wait—Young-hee now has a partner? A new male doll, Chul-Su, enters and looks at Young-hee. The light turns green, and the scene promises a third season of the show.

According to Screen Rant, Chul-Su’s entry alongside Young-hee could mean that players might face the Trolley Problem in season 3. While not technically a children’s game, the Trolley Problem could be adapted into a deadly challenge by the Front Man. The two massive dolls could function as trains, and players might be forced to lie in their paths. Supporting this theory is the altered Red Light, Green Light setup, which no longer resembles the original but instead mirrors the appearance of railway stations.

Squid Game Season 3 Update

If you haven’t watched the end credits of Squid Game season 2, stay tuned until the finale’s end. A hidden mid-credit scene sets the stage for season 3 and confirms the show’s return in late 2025. Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has teased what’s to come, revealing that Seong Gi-hun will undergo significant changes and won’t be the same man viewers saw in season 2.

Speaking to Variety about what to expect from Squid Game season 3, Hwang said, “At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon. I expect it to debut around summer or fall next year.”

Regarding the storyline, Hwang added, “As for the third season, Gi-hun has lost everything—his best friend and all his attempts have failed. What state will he be in? What will he choose to do? Will he persist in his mission or give up? In season 3, viewers will find Gi-hun at a critical crossroads.”

Squid Game season 2 is now streaming on Netflix. Stay tuned to OTTplay for updates on this and more from the world of streaming and films.
