Squid Game creator teases The Front Man and Recruiter Spin-off set between season 2 and 3 - Here's what we know so far

The world has been obsessing over the second season of Squid Game which was released in December 2024 and now also lives in anticipation of the third season that is set for release this year and, as per the leaked dates, on June 27, 2025. But what is more exciting is that the third season will be the final season, and the main storyline that we are now witnessing will end at the end of the upcoming season. But there is no way Netflix is leaving this IP for good so soon. So it is given that they would want to branch it out and create a completely new universe. So now, as rumors keep floating, creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has spoken about the possibility of a spin-off series to Squid Game set between the events of season 1 and season 2.

Hwang Dong-hyuk on Squid Game Spin-Off Idea

Squid Game season 3 is already on track, already shot, and is in post-production. So now Hwang Dong-hyuk has said that they are actually tossing around ideas for a spin-off for Squid Game, and it is an exciting one. So the said spin-off will be about The Front Man and the Recruiter, who is now dead in the present timeline. However, what is more interesting is when the show will be set. Hwang revealed how the gap between season 1 and season 2 is that of three long years, and that gives enough room to the team to imagine everything that happened in those three years and what the two did in those.

“One of the ideas I’m tossing around is what happened between season one and two. There’s a three-year gap. So, for example, what was the Front Man doing during those three years? What was the Recruiter doing? When I have some downtime, I like to just toss some ideas around and go wild with my imagination. So I guess we can be open to anything,” Hwang Dong-hyuk said as per Screen Rant.

Squid Game Season 3 Release Date Accidentally Revealed?

Squid Game is one of the most popular streaming shows across the globe and one that has created history for a non-English offering. The second season debuted with 68 million views, breaking the record of the all-time watched Non-English TV list. The achievements are many, and the anticipation for more is very high. Now, as per an accidentally released video by Netflix, the show is set to return with the third season in June 2025.

Netflix Korea on their YouTube channel shared a teaser of Squid Game season 3. The teaser featured the iconic girl robot, Young-hee, who is transported to a new location, where she is kept face-to-face with the new boy robot, Chul-soo. It was in this video where they accidentally announced the release date of the show, and it said it was June 27. The streaming giant has pulled back the video since then, but that doesn't mean the eagle-eyed netizens did not take screenshots of the same.
