One of the most beloved TV shows of all time, which broke streaming records during the pandemic, is back with its second season. After three years of anticipation, Squid Game is finally back on Netflix, drawing global attention. Picking up where season one left off, Lee Jung-jae's Seong Gi-hun misses the flight and decides to stay behind. After a three-year jump, he’s operating from a motel, trying to track down the recruiter and destroy the game. Despite his efforts, the Front Man stays one step ahead, trapping him again.

Squid Game 2 Mid Credit Explained

The series of deadly games and Gi-hun’s growing restlessness lead to the finale, where he forms a team to rebel against the game. However, the Front Man, disguised as Player 001, turns the game upside down. After another tragedy, Gi-hun faces a devastating loss, shaking his resolve. Just when it seems like the credits have rolled and the story is over, a mid-credit scene hints at major developments for the third season.

Midway through the credits, we see Players 096, 100, and 353 entering the "Red Light, Green Light" game, now set against a new sunset backdrop. Player 100, who had a massive debt and strongly favored continuing the game, is part of the group. They encounter the giant Young-hee doll, which now has a male companion. As the light turns green, the promise of Squid Game season 3 looms large.

This opens up several possibilities. The Front Man may have continued the game after capturing Gi-hun, making the challenges even more deadly. The rivalry between the X and O teams could bring even more drama. The future of the franchise remains uncertain, with plenty of speculation.

Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Variety, “If you watched the hidden clip after the credits in Season 2, it’s going to give you a hint of where Season 3 might lead. That’s all I can say for now.”

Squid Game Season 2 Ending Explained

In the final moments of Squid Game season 2, a group of players, including Myung-gi (Player 333), Dae-ho (Player 388), Gyeong-seok (Player 246), Hyun-ju (Player 120), Yong-sik (Player 007), Geum-ja (Player 149), Jung-bae (Player 390), and Jun-hee (Player 222), join Seong Gi-hun in a revolt against the game bosses. They manage to overpower some of the soldiers and take their weapons. However, the Front Man, posing as Player 001, takes control again. After eliminating several players, he targets Gi-hun and his best friend, ultimately killing the friend, leaving a massive question mark about Gi-hun's future.

Will Gi-hun continue his rebellion, or will this tragic loss push him to quit?
