Squid Game 2 was all about Gong Yoo and Lee Jung-jae, but once the focus shifted, Yim Si-wan took over. His peak moment was the bathroom fight with T.O.P's Thanos, which pushed him to become a killer in the game. It was in fact the first time ever that a player killed another. The actor and Jo Yu-ri, who plays his ex on the show, discusses the very scene in depth. Here's everything they said...
During the roundtable with Deadline, Si-wan spilled how the physically challenging scene also caused him emotional distress. The actor believes that the character is a smart individual despite his series of wrong decisions. He saw the scene as one where he would be a victim or target all the time. Since they (Thanos and his 'friend' Nam-gyu) continued their hostile behaviour with no intention of stopping, Myung-gi decided to attack instead.
Jo Yu-ri, who plays Myung-gi's ex-girlfriend but is pregnant with his child, has a different perspective of the character. She believes that many, including her, are not aware of Myung-gi being a murderer. In the scene, her character Kim Jun-hee asks him to wipe off the blood from his face. Yu-ri hinted that her character Jun-hee might think that Myung-gi has seen a murder in front of him, not that he was the one who actually attacked with a weapon. Ju-ri explained that with her part in the scene, the mother to their child wants the father to not lose his humanity despite the trying circumstances around them.
Myung-gi became a murderer, but for a reason. His move of killing Thanos with a fork was in defense, after the rapper tried to choke Myung-gi to death in order to make up for the massive loss in crypto investment. Just when Myung-gi felt his shallow breaths, he took out his weapon - a fork - and attacked Thanos, thus killing him in the process. He hid in the bathroom throughout, leaving the murder weapon behind, which Nam-gyu uses to kill the other members present in the bathroom, who do not agree with continuing the game.
