Spike Jonze's filmography might include only four credits as a director, but it is safe to say that he has left a lasting impression with each attempt. Having begun his feature film career in the year 1999 with John Malkovich, Jonze is known for his inventive work in films like Adaptation and the more recent 'Her', which starred Joaquin Phoenix in the lead.

However, 'Her' arrived in cinemas nearly a decade ago and since then, his admirers have been keenly looking forward to seeing him back at the helm. Spike Jonze has been busy making documentaries and in other capacities such as writing and production, but one does wish to see him employ his creativity again as a full-fledged feature film director.

Well, those keeping a check may have to wait a bit longer for a film to be announced but it would seem that Jonze is making a 'comeback' after all. According to the latest updates, Spike Jonze is working with Netflix for a lavish, large-canvas limited series which, reportedly, has been in development for quite some time.

The details available about this series in the works are quite slim at the moment but the same reports reveal that the genre will be science fiction. This sounds particularly exciting because the 2013 film, which Jonze both wrote and directed, became a seminal endeavour in the sci-fi genre that was seen as both an allegory and also a bittersweet love story. With the upcoming Netflix series rumoured of being one of the streaming platform's most expensive to date, one would certainly build their hopes up.

And to top things off, we hear that Joaquin Phoenix has been approached to play the lead in the project. Phoenix and Jonze's collaboration delivered Her and fans would love to see them reunite for a project set in a similar space but mounted on a much larger scale. Spike Jonze will be writing and directing the limited series.

Alongside, Jonze is also said to be developing an animated series for Netflix but there's no formal confirmation yet made on that either. Regardless, it is exciting to know that a distinct voice such as Spike Jonze is back in the mainstream, doing what he does best.
