The world is eagerly anticipating the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, a movie that technically kickstarts a new future for the MCU. It is set to not only bring back Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman reprising their mutant roles but also introduce a league of X-Men and many more fan-favorite characters that were under the Fox banner, some of whom have never been introduced to live action. In this case, the anticipation for everything that is about to happen in the MCU moving ahead is high, and there is nothing wrong with that. The biggest projects on the calendar right now are Spider-Man 4, Avengers 5 and 6 (Secret Wars), and the X-Men reboot. Fans have been eager to know everything about them, but the makers have been tight-lipped. It turns out Kevin Feige is finally talking.
While the rest of the projects are also interesting, you cannot deny these four are the top-tier ones. While we have heard numerous rumors about them already, all of us were waiting for some clarity. Spider-Man 4 has been discussed and speculated about in the wildest manner because, at this point, rumors have made it a villain fest against a PTSD sufferer Peter Parker. The last update about the next two Avengers movies said that the Russo Brothers are in talks to return. But are these true? Let Kevin Feige tell you. Read on to know everything about the same.
The wildest rumor that came this week from the Marvel realm said that the bosses may have decided to bounce back to the OGs after having a series of writers and directors walk away from the two Avengers movies, including Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars. It was said that the Russo Brothers are in talks to direct those. In case you aren't aware, the Russos have directed multiple beloved MCU movies, including Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War.
But is the news true? Inverse met Kevin Feige and asked him about the same. The MCU boss was as usual diplomatic and secretive in his answer as he took digs at the rumors. "No, I can’t comment on it except to say it was somebody else a couple of weeks ago and I look forward to seeing who it is going to be next week," he teased. "We’ll see." While this doesn't make anything clear, it makes us sure that something big is cooking.
It has been months since we have been reading numerous rumors about Spider-Man 4. The follow-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home has been said to be dealing with Peter Parker’s PTSD of losing everyone he loved and how he doesn't even have friends now. Later we were told that the makers have even zeroed in on a director and the work will begin soon. What is even more interesting is that they are developing the movie with Sony, who recently had a tug of war with them over the plot and the release date of the film reportedly.
So io9, in an interview, asked Kevin Feige about an update on Spider-Man 4 where he said, "Amy [Pascal] and I are working on it. We have writers who are going to be delivering us a draft relatively soon." While this makes it clear that it is still far from entering production, the work is on, and that is enough confirmation for now. Last but not least, Kevin Feige even spoke about his vision for X-Men. The mutants are now entering the MCU. For months we have been reading about the many cameos in Deadpool & Wolverine, and there was X-Men ‘97 that welcomed them in a big way. How can we forget the post-credit in The Marvels? Kevin has now opened up on how the tone of X-Men ‘97 will inspire the tone of the X-Men reboot.
"Well, it’s that phrase we use often at Marvel, which is 'It’s an embarrassment of riches,'" he said. "And there are a lot of great X-Men characters in the Deadpool & Wolverine film. There are a lot of great X-Men characters in all of the Fox versions of the X-Men films. And there are a lot of great X-Men characters that have never gone on the big screen. So I think as we always try to do, as we did when we made the arrangement with Sony for Spider-Man, you’ll probably see a mix of characters you’ve seen before and characters you’ve never seen before."
Feige added, "I think the success of X-Men ’97 was really exciting for us to see people revisit and reconnect with that world. And dare I say, the soap opera elements of that world, which is one of the things that’s so exciting to us about jumping into it finally in the MCU."
Deadpool & Wolverine hits the big screen on July 26, and the first season of X-Men ‘97 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar in India. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more information on this and everything else from the world of streaming and films.
