From Shaitan-2 to Pharma, South web series to look forward to in 2024

2023 has been a special year in the OTT space. Some content-rich shows made heads turn in the South and in 2024, things are all set to go to the next level. The budgets, star cast, and concepts have become promising, and here are a few of the much-awaited South web series to look forward to in the next year.

Shaitan-2 - Hotstar (Telugu)

The first season of Shaitan was a smash hit in Telugu. Directed by Mahi V Raghav, season 2 of Shaitan will be out in June 2024. Shaitan 2 features Rishi, Ramya Nambeesan, and Deviyani Sharma in lead roles. It is a crime thriller and the makers say that the second season will be even bolder and hard-hitting.

Save The Tigers 2 - Hotstar (Telugu)

Save The Tigers is a rare web series that can be watched with the entire family. The first season was a smash hit and the stage is set for season 2. Directed by Teja Kakumanu, the show features Abhinav Gomatam, Krishna Chaitanya, and Priyadarshi in lead roles. Slated to release in April 2024, this comedy caper is based on three frustrated husbands.

Vadhuvu-2 - Hotstar (Telugu)

Vadhuvu featuring Avika Gor was also a smash hit on Hostar. The first season ended on a cliffhanger and the second season will be out in March 2024. Ali Reza and Nandu play key roles in this mysterious family drama.

Rana Naidu-2 - Netflix (Telugu)

Rana Naidu was the most-watched Telugu web series ever on Netflix. Though the critics panned the series and Venkatesh was trolled for his bold avatar, the show co-starring Rana Daggubati is all set to come back with a riveting season 2 and will be out in mid-2024.

Bahishkarana - Zee 5 (Telugu)

Bahishkarana is a new Telugu web series that is headlined by star heroine, Anjali. The series is written and directed by Mukesh Prajapathi. The premiere date will be announced soon. Pixel Pictures is bankrolling this web show. Shri Tej, Ananya Nagalla, and Ravindra Vijay play vital roles.

Pharma - Hotstar (Malayalam)

Nivin Pauly makes his OTT debut with Pharma, a web series that is directed by PR Arun. The story is inspired by hundreds of true stories. Pharma also stars popular Hindi actor Rajit Kapur in a key role.

1000+ Babies - Hotstar (Malayalam)

Award-winning actress Neena Gupta and actor Rahman star in the Malayalam series 1000+ Babies. Directed by Najeem Koya, the release date of the multilingual web series is yet to be locked.

Jai Mahendran-Sony Liv(Malayalam)

Jai Mahendran stars Saiju Kurup, who is set to make his OTT debut. Directed by Srikanth Mohan, the series also stars Suhasini Mani Ratnam, Miya George, Suresh Krishna, Johny Antony, Maniyanpilla Raju, Balachandran Chullikad, Rahul Riji Nair, Vishnu Govindan, and Sidhartha Siva in key roles. 

Madhuvidhu - Disney+ Hotstar (Malayalam)

Disney+ Hotstar's Madhuvidhu stars Suraj Venjaramoodu. The series is set in the 1970s and will be a dark comedy. Nithin Renji Panicker directs the series which also stars Shwetha Menon, Kalabhavan Shajon, Prashant Alexander, Grace Antony, Kani Kasumi, Niranjana Anoop, Alfie Panjikaran, and Ammu Abhirami.

Perilloor Premier League - Disney+ Hotstar(Malayalam)

Perilloor Premier League is a village comedy show featuring Nikhila Vimal, Sunny Wayne, Vijayaraghavan, and Aju Varghese. Produced by Mukesh R Mehta and CV Sarathi under the E4 Entertainment banner, the series is directed by Praveen Chandran.

Suzhal - Season 2- Amazon Prime(Tamil)

Suzhal was a smash hit Tamil web series in 2023. Created by Pushkar and Gayatri, the second season will be out in the middle of 2024 as per the latest update. The show is set in a small South Indian town, where a seemingly routine minor case explodes into a twisted crime thriller that rips apart its social fabric

Ekam - OTT platform Yet to be locked(Kannada)

Ekam is one of the most awaited web series in Kannada. The series has been ready in 2021 but has not been aired for some reason. Produced by Rakshit Shetty's Journeyman Films, Ekam is presented by Paramvah Studios. It is created by Sandeep P S and Sumanth Bhat. The buzz in the industry is that Ekam will be out in the middle of 2024.
