South Park to return for season 25, announces release date in new video

For fans who missed the irreverently outlandish brand of humour that only South Park can accord, here is some good news. It was announced that the adult animated series will return for its 25th season next month. The latest season will premiere on February 2, 2022.

The date announcement came in the form of a 15 second promo video, on the show’s official Youtube channel. It features an orchestra getting ready for a performance, tuning instruments and testing notes. Just as the chief conductor is to start the performance, South Park’s date announcement fills the screen.

The last season of South Park had aired in 2019, with production on the new season undergoing delays due to the pandemic. The new season will consist of six episodes which will be aired on a weekly basis.

After the 24th season, two hour long specials titled The Pandemic Special and South ParQ Vaccination Special were released in 2020 and 2021 respectively.

The series was renewed for another season as part of a deal between the creators and MTV Entertainment Studios. As part of the deal, the show will be extended at least till the year 2027, which means a guaranteed run till season 30.

South Park debuted in 1997. Created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the series follows four boys and the antics they get up to together in Colorado. The show is rife with irreverent brand of humour and over the top jokes that satirize a wide range of topics. It has earned numerous accolades throughout its run, including five Emmy Awards.

Seasons 17 to 23 of South Park are available to stream on Netflix.
