Will Ranbir Kapoor play Sourav Ganguly in his biopic? The speculations were on for a while now. On Sunday, the debate over the topic intensified after Dada stated that his ‘preference’ is Ranbir as the duo played a friendly match to promote Ranbir’s upcoming film, Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Directed by Luv Ranjan, the film also features Shraddha Kapoor and will be released on March 8.
Ranbir came to Kolkata on Sunday morning. After attending a press conference, the actor went to Edeen Gardens where his team, Makkar XI, plays a brief cricket match with Sourav’s team, Jhooti XI. But wherever he went, the question of his participation in Dada’s biopic followed.
At the press conference, he said that he has been working on the Kishore Kumar biopic and he has not received any offer of Sourav’s biopic. “Dada is a living legend, not just in India but also abroad. His biopic will be really special. Unfortunately, I have not been offered the role and I think the makers are still writing the script. Meanwhile, I have been working on Kishore Kumar’s biopic for 11 years. I’ve been writing that with Anurag Basu and I hope that will be my next biopic. I have not heard anything about dada’s biopic,” he said.
Meanwhile, after their match at Eden Gardens, the duo met the press and Sourav was asked about the biopic. He said that he prefers Ranbir to play his character. “Today it is not about my biopic. We will talk about it some other time. Preference will always be him but we’ll talk about it some other day,” said the former Indian captain.
Ranbir was initially scheduled to come on Saturday. However, it was postponed till Sunday as the entertainment journalists in Kolkata hosted a picnic. The actor started the press conference by asking about the picnic. “Bahut sune hai iss picnic ke bare mein,” he said. The journalists gifted him sweets and he, in return, presented packets of sweets to the journalists in a lovely gesture.
