Actor-filmmaker-cricket commentator RJ Balaji is gearing up for the release of his film Sorgavaasal, which is slated to release this Friday (November 29). While the film has been one of the most expected releases this week, and is set in a prison, Sorgavaasal’s post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by streaming giant Netflix.
RJ Balaji, who was last seen in this year’s Singapore Saloon, is all set to play the lead in the upcoming dark and gritty film Sorgavaasal. The film is written and directed by Sidharth Vishwanath in his debut. Sorgavaasal was already announced to be a part of streaming platform Netflix’s content slate, which was announced a while ago. Hence, naturally, once the film completes the theatrical run, it will be available on Netflix to stream. Ideally, Sorgavaasal should premiere sometime by the end of December or January 2025.
Thamizh Praba, Ashwin Ravichandran and Sidharth Vishwanath have worked as the writers in the film. Others part of the technical crew consists of Prince Anderson as the cinematographer and Christo Xavier scoring the music. Selva RK is the editor.
The trailer of Sorgavaasal hints that the film will be majorly set in a prison. Sorgavaasal is action-oriented and revolves around an incident that took place in prison. We see the dynamics between the thugs inside the prison, the jail officials, and the protagonist who is caught between the turmoil and power dynamics. Sorgavaasal will be a deviation of sorts from RJ Balaji’s other films, which are mostly comic and life dramas.
The cast of Sorgavaasal includes Selvaraghavan, Natty, Karunaas, Saniya Iyappan, Sharaf-U-Dheen, Hakkim Shah, Balaji Sakthivel, Anthonythasan, Ravi Raghavendra, and Samuel Robinson.
Meanwhile, RJ Balaji has begun the production for his upcoming directorial featuring Suriya. Tentatively called Suriya 45, the film will have music by AR Rahman and is backed by Dream Warrier Pictures.
