Soori reveals that he had to do THIS to play his character Pandi correctly in Kottukkaali

We had recently reported that the upcoming Tamil film Kottukkaali, starring actors Soori and Anna Ben in the lead roles has its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival recently. Backed by actor Sivakarthikeyan under his home banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions, Kottukkaali became the first officially selected Tamil film to have its world premiere at the prestigious festival.

While the film is yet to be released in India, actor Soori, in one of the recent interviews, revealed to the extent he went to prepare for his role Pandi and efforts took for the voice acting. Kottukkaali is directed by PS Vinothraj of Koozhangal fame.

Soori’s efforts for Kottukkaali

Called as The Adamant Girl in its international title, Kottukkaali stars Anna Ben and Soori in the lead roles. Speaking about working on his character, Soori said to Galatta Plus Tamil, “Everyone who saw the film asked me how I managed to get the certain type of voice modulation. When I said them, they were even more shocked. I wanted to change my voice and visited the doctor to know what I could do so that I sounded like I have a throat infection and had to speak in a husky voice. The doctor was shocked to know that I had wanted to damage my voice. Even as he was skeptical, he suggested some traditional plants which tends to arrest one's voice. That was how I was able to bring the character's voice.”

About Kottukkaali

Kottukkaali is directed by PS Vinothraj in his sophomore directorial after Koozhangal. The film is expected to revolve around a girl who is forced into a marriage against her will. While she is in love with someone else, the girl falls silent, leading to her family think that she is possessed. What follows is the family’s efforts to drive the demon out of her. Kottukkaali is expected to be a commentary on gender inequality, domestic violence, and superstitions. The film marks Anna Ben’s Tamil debut. It is yet to get a release date in India.
