Finally, it's official that Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan will be headlining the Hindi remake of the 2020 Tamil blockbuster Soorarai Pottru. The remake is also being helmed by Sudha Kongara, who directed the Amazon Prime Video original flick. Akshay took to his Instagram page and shared a video featuring Radhika and Sudha while they kickstarted the shoot of the much-anticipated film. While sharing the video, the Khiladi star also asked fans to suggest a title for the untitled movie.
Akshay captioned the video as "With the auspicious coconut-breaking and a small prayer in our hearts, we begin the filming of our yet untitled film, which is about dreams and the power of it. If you have any title suggestions, do share them with us and, of course, your best wishes."
Meanwhile, Suriya, Aparna Balamurali, and Paresh Rawal appear in Soorarai Pottru, which also features Mohan Babu, Urvashi, and Karunas in supporting roles.
Simplifly Deccan founder G. R. Gopinath's memoir, Simply Fly: A Deccan Odyssey, provided inspiration for the film.
Soorarai Pottru was hailed by critics, who commended the film's primary technical components as well as the writing, Suriya's acting, and Sudha's direction. At the 78th Golden Globe Awards, it was chosen as one of 10 Indian films to be screened in the Best Foreign Film category. The film was made available for viewing at the 93rd Academy Awards, although it did not receive any nominations. The film was also selected for the Shanghai International Film Festival's Panorama Section.
Suriya and Guneet Monga produced the film under their separate labels, 2D Entertainment and Sikhya Entertainment. Meanwhile, Suriya and Jyotika are co-producing the Hindi remake with Abundantia Entertainment.
The film has just gone on floors and is most likely to be a theatrical release, unlike the original film, which premiered on OTT. The release date has yet to be announced.
