Sonu Sood is making his directorial debut with an action-thriller, Fateh. The trailer of his film was recently released. And it featured Sonu's high-octane action sequence with masked men. Some people were quick to compare it with Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal. In a recent interview with India Today, the actor admitted that the team considered the possibility of people drawing parallels between Fateh and Animal. However, there were certain logistical constraints behind the action sequences.
Sonu Sood revealed that he loved the action sequences in Animal. "Ranbir did very well," he said. He further addressed the similarity between the scenes and said it was a technical necessity.
"The problem was, we hired around 70–80 fighters for about three major action sequences. In a single shot, we show 70 people getting killed by my character. Now, we didn’t have enough people for the remaining action sequences," shared Sonu. The actor added that since they had already shown the faces of the fighters before, they decided to cast them again with masks.
Sood further mentioned, "We considered the possibility of people thinking this looks like Animal, but it was a technical necessity." He revealed that it wasn't feasible to replace the fighters immediately as they came from Mexico and South Africa. According to the Fateh actor, recycling the same fighters was the most practical solution.
Written and directed by Sonu Sood, Fateh is scheduled for a theatrical release on January 10, 2025. He also stars in the film alongside Jacqueline Fernandez, Vijay Raaz, Naseeruddin Shah, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, and others.
Produced by Sood along with Umesh KR Bansal, the film revolves around the life of an ex-special ops officer Fateh. He leads a peaceful life in Punjab until a village girl falls prey to a cybercrime syndicate.
