Sonu Nigam, known for never mincing his words, is back with another controversial statement, this time criticizing an album involving legends AR Rahman and Gulzar Sahab. In his latest remarks, Sonu discussed his experience working on the Yuvvraaj album, which features one of his songs. The singer called the album bekaar and admitted he didn’t like the song he sang. Read on for the details.

Sonu Nigam Calls AR Rahman’s Yuvvraaj Album Bekaar

Starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, Yuvvraaj released in 2008 and was directed by Subhash Ghai. The film was praised for its music, composed by AR Rahman and penned by the legendary Gulzar. However, in an interview with O2 India, Sonu Nigam, who has delivered some of his most iconic hits with Rahman, called the album bekaar. When asked about singing the song Shano Shano from the album, he criticized it as “pretty average” and “not such a good song.”

He further stated, “Let’s not talk about it. I won’t be able to lie. I won’t be able to praise a bad song.” When asked about the other two songs he sang for the film, he responded bluntly, “Voh bhool jaiye aap. Iske saare gaane bekaar the” (Just forget about it. All the songs were bad).

Sonu Nigam on AR Rahman

Sonu Nigam also opened up about AR Rahman’s personality, calling him a very detached individual. Nigam remarked, “He doesn’t have relationships. He is not the kind of person who has relationships. He doesn’t open up to anyone. At least, I have never seen that. Perhaps, he opens up in front of his older friends, who have known him as Dileep. But I haven’t seen him opening up or having any relationship with anybody. He is not a friendly person. He is just into his work.”

The singer acknowledged Rahman’s dedication to his work and prayers, adding, “He doesn’t behave badly with anyone. He will not hurt anybody’s heart. He won’t speak ill about anyone. He is detached from all of this. He must be attached to his family, but I haven’t seen him being very friendly with others. He doesn’t let anyone come close to him. That’s how it should be.”

Sonu Nigam has collaborated with AR Rahman on hit tracks like Satrangi Re (Dil Se), Saathiya, and O Humdum Suniyo Re (Saathiya). The Yuvvraaj album comprises eight songs, including Tu Meri Dost Hai, Shano Shano, Tu Muskura, Mastam Mastam, Dil Ka Rishta, and Zindagi, among others.
