Sonali Bendre says she discovered something new about herself while working on Sarfarosh with Aamir Khan

Sonali Bendre is basking in the glory of the success of her comeback show, The Broken News. The ZEE5 series, in association with BBC Studios, also stars Jaideep Ahlawat and Shriya Pilgaonkar. The show that revolves around the two rival TV newsrooms has received a great response from the fans and critics alike. 

The actor recently said that she has been receiving good reviews for her role in the show and people are appreciating the way she played it. Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, the actor also talked about her 90s film, Sarfarosh, her chemistry with Aamir Khan and the film, Hum Saath Saath Hai. 

She opened up about how she landed up the role in the film Sarfarosh. She said the director of the film, John Matthew Matthan was particular about casting only her in the role. She said, "It was the director John who was keen on casting me in Sarfarosh. Nobody else knew why he wanted me to do it. I had done Duplicate and Zakhm that time and my image was different. Sarfarosh had my character as a girl next door, there was a comic timing in it." Since she had earlier worked with John for some ad films, she said he knew the other side to her, which even she didn't know existed. "It was a pleasure to play that role. It had fun playing that role. It showed a different side to me. For me, it also opened another aspect. I realised I do have a sense of comic timing and I do enjoy it," she said. 

The actor also said that she felt comedy comes naturally to her and it was easier for her to play the part in Sarfarosh, compared to Duplicate. "Through the process, I was learning about myself," she said. She also talked about the immensely popular song, Is Deewane Ladko from the movie. She said she had fun shooting it with Aamir Khan. The song has a story in it and she said, she prefers such songs to shoot songs with dance numbers. 

She then went on to play the shy girl in Hum Saath Saath Hai, which also won the hearts of many. She said she received good reviews and people thought that she was good at it because she was playing herself but in reality, she is not like her at all. She said she is talkative. But she takes it as a compliment. 

Sarfarosh, which is about a police officer (Aamir Khan) who is working towards ending cross-border terrorism, is available to stream on ZEE5. Sonali's new series, The Broken News is also available to watch on the OTT platform.
