Sold movie trailer: Prerana Agarwal’s debut feature explores the dark side of child trafficking

Last evening, the trailer of actress Kavya Shetty’s next release, Sold, dropped. The film, by debutante director Prerana Agarwal is a poignant exploration of the dark side of human trafficking, particularly of children. In the trailer, a child is kidnapped, with the investigation that follows unravelling this murky and dangerous ‘trade’.

Kavya Shetty plays Ruchita, an investigative journalist, who takes a keen interest in the case of a friend’s missing child. She is aided in her quest by a police officer played by Danish Sait, but the investigation puts her and everyone involved in great peril.

According to the filmmaker, the narrative of the film unfolds from the perspective of three characters, a gangster running a trafficking racket, an investigative journalist and a kidnapped child. The objective, Prerana has been quoted as saying, is to shine light on the oft ignored aspects of child labour and human trafficking, all of which is still prevalent in society today and create awareness about these social evils. The Mumbai-based filmmaker, who studied in Bengaluru earlier, adds that the story was spun together based on first-hand information of trafficking cases she has come across.

Produced by Deepam Kohli, who also plays a pivotal role in the film, Sold also features Bharath JB, Siddharth Madhyamika, Bhavani Prakash, Hanumanthe Gowda and Shivani R, among others, while Shivani Ballakuraya is seen as the kidnapped child. The thriller was shot in live locations, including slums and orphanages and will see Danish in a serious role, a stark contrast from his earlier onscreen outings.

Sold, produced by Horn OK Films, releases in theatres on March 4, 2022.
