Make hay while the sun shines is the motto that singer Sid Sriram is driven by lately, given the frequency at which his numbers are featuring in every second Telugu film that's hitting theatres or OTT. Composers are so obsessed with his voice and popularity that no music album is complete without a Sid Sriram track. While there's no doubt about Sid Sriram's potential or fame that cuts across language barriers, it seems like his balance between quantity and quality is gradually going for a toss. It needs to be said that his presence across umpteen films is turning out to be an overdose for the listener.
Sid Sriram's latest release is a peppy love track So So Ga from filmmaker Maruthi's Telugu web film Manchi Rojulochaie, composed by Anup Rubens. It has been ages since Anup Rubens has composed for a love story (Akhil's Hello, a memorable album) and there's enough proof to suggest that he had a blast putting together So So Ga. The song is about a guy enthusiastically expressing how he's smitten by the girl of his life in the 'do jism, ek jaan' zone. The lyrics written by Krishna Kanth emphasise that the girl has filled his life with so much joy after his 'solo' days.
As you may have known by now, the lyrics, though relatable, aren't the strength of this song. Anup Rubens' energic tune, which is equally melodic and foot-tapping, is the sole reason why you must listen to the number. Sid Sriram's woes with his Telugu diction continue and as a singer, he's getting increasingly repetitive with his style. It's time composers don't merely chase big names for songs with the number-game in mind and instead give up-and-coming Telugu-speaking singers their due. So So Ga works well as a tune but it's high time Sid Sriram approaches his songs differently.
Santosh Shobhan, Mehreen Pirzada, Vennela Kishore and Viva Harsha are part of the light-hearted family entertainer, produced by V celluloid and SKN. Sai Sriram has cranked the camera for the film whose crew also includes art director Ram Kumar. The film, whose shoot was wrapped earlier this year, is expected to release on a leading OTT platform shortly. Anup Rubens, besides Manchu Rojulochaie, has also scored the music for Venkatesh-Meena starrer Drishyam 2.
