Skanda, the first pan Indian film in the careers of director Boyapati Sreenu and actor Ram Pothineni, released worldwide in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada languages today. Sreeleela, Saiee Manjrekar played the female leads in the action entertainer produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under Srinivasaa Silver Screen. S Thaman scored the music for the lavishly mounted project.
The film underwent two release date changes - the makers switched the dates from October 19 to September 15 and finalised September 28 at last. The actioner has an ensemble cast comprising Gautami, Indraja, Srikanth, Sharath Lohitashwa and Raja Daggubati. Skanda is expected to open well at mass centres despite the negative reviews. Disney+ Hotstar acquired its post-theatrical streaming rights.
The leading streamer generally opts for a window between 30 and 40 days for its OTT release and is expected to premiere Skanda by the end of October or the first half of November. Interestingly, the OTT rights of Ram Pothineni’s previous release, The Warriorr, also produced by Srinivasaa Silver Screen, (directed by Tamil filmmaker Lingusamy) was bagged by Disney+ Hotstar as well.

Boyapati Sreenu’s last film was the immensely successful Akhanda, starring Balakrishna, Pragya Jaiswal (now streaming on Disney + Hotstar). Given how both Boyapati and Ram specialise in action entertainers, there were huge expectations around Skanda. The initial reports from critics suggest that the film has not lived upto expectations; the box office verdict will be out soon.
Santosh Detake cranked the camera for the film which was edited by Tammiraju. Prem Rakshith choreographed the songs while Stun Shiva is the action director. Zee Studios and Pavan Kumar jointly presented the film whose audio rights were grabbed by Junglee Music. Star Network has acquired the satellite deals for all the South Indian versions of Skanda for a fancy price.
