SJ Suryah joins Dhanush’s Raayan, calls the gangster drama to be 'raw and rustic yet emotional'

Actor Dhanush is currently working on his upcoming Tamil film Raayan, which he will be both directing and acting in as well. While the makers had released the first look poster a few days ago, Dhanush took to his social media handle to welcome filmmaker-actor SJ Suryah to join the cast of the film.

A new poster was released for SJ Suryah, welcoming the actor into Raayan's team. The film is backed by a Sun Pictures banner.

SJ Suryah joins Raayan

A new poster for SJ Suryah was released by the makers to announce that he is joining the cast of the film. In a monochromatic shot, Suryah is seen sitting on a chair while holding a glass. It is expected that he will be playing the antagonist in Dhanush's directorial. Raayan will mark the first time Dhanush and SJ Suryah are collaborating on a project.

Sharing the poster, Dhanush wrote, “#Raayan Had great fun directing you @iam_SJSuryah sir.” SJ Suryah also shared the poster and replied that he too is excited to work with Dhanush and a “bliss acting” to be in his directorial. He also thanked Dhanush for the opportunity and described Raayan to be “raw and rustic yet emotional in international standard”. SJ Suryah called it a “summer treat”, hinting that the film will have a summer release in 2024 .

About Raayan

Raayan is Dhanush’s second directorial after Pa Paandi and his 50th outing as an actor. Expected to be a gangster drama set in north Chennai, the film also stars Sundeep Kishan, Dushara Vijayan, Kalidas Jayaram, Aparna Balamurali, and Anikha Surendran, among others. Raayan is backed by the Sun Pictures banner and has AR Rahman scoring the music. With Om Prakash handling the cinematographer, editing will be taken care of by Prasanna GK.

Earlier rumours were floating that the script for Raayan was by Dhanush’s brother and filmmaker Selvaraghavan. However, the latter clarified that he has nothing to do with Raayan’s script and he will be associated with the project only in the capacity of an actor.
