Sita Ramam, the period romance that released in Telugu, Tamil and Malayalam (with the Hindi version having a delayed theatrical release) on August 5, has completed a successful four-week run at the cinemas and is gearing up for an OTT premiere this weekend on Amazon Prime. Dulquer Salmaan and Mrunal Thakur played the lead roles in the film helmed by Hanu Raghavapudi and produced by Swapna Cinemas. The makers of the film released a deleted sequence earlier today.
In the sequence, Rashmika Mandanna, cast in the role of Pakistani woman Afreen, is in search of Noor Jehan's whereabouts. Amidst her pursuit, Afreen meets an elderly woman, played by Geetha Bhascker, who claims that Noor Jahan had donated her entire property to set up a university for women. She guides her to visit a man named Subrahmanyam to know more about Noor Jahan. Before the elderly woman could take the conversation forward, Rashmika a.k.a Afreen leaves the place.
When she leaves the building, Afreen is surprised that a driver is waiting to return her belongings that she had unknowingly left behind in a taxi. She even says, "Not bad, you didn't turn out to be like other Indians," to which the driver responds, "Every Indian would've done the same thing. Please check if everything in your bag is intact." The scene is impactful within the one-minute duration and even throws hints about the Indo-Pakistani tension, but doesn't exactly drive the film's story forward.
It isn't surprising why the scene was edited out of the film. Abhay Bethiganti is cast as the driver in the sequence. Sumanth, Tharun Bhascker, Bhumika Chawla, Vennela Kishore, Gautham Vasudev Menon and Murli Sharma play other important roles. Vishal Chandrasekhar scored the music while Shreyaas Krishnan and PS Vinod cranked the camera for the same. Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao was the editor.
