Dhanush, who has had multiple releases this year - Naane Varuvaen and Thiruchitrambalam - and drew praise for both of his performances, will have to wait for a few months for his first straight Telugu film, Sir, to hit screens. The film, simultaneously shot in Telugu and Tamil (as Vaathi), will release in theatres on February 17, 2023. Written and directed by Venky Atluri, the film is produced by S Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya under Sithara Entertainments and Fortune Four Cinemas.
Samyuktha Menon is cast as the female lead in the project that'll release in Telugu and Tamil at the same time. In the release announcement poster, Dhanush, dressed in a blue formal shirt, is flamboyantly seated on the stairs amidst a college backdrop surrounded by a group of students. The National award-winning actor plays the role of a junior lecturer named Bala Gangadhar Tilak in the same. Sai Kumar, Tanikella Bharani, Narra Srinivas and Motta Rajendran form the supporting cast of the bilingual.
J Yuvraj has cranked the camera for the film, edited by Navin Nooli. GV Prakash Kumar is the music director. His first single Mastaaru Mastaaru, lyricised by Ramajogaiah Sastry and sung by Shweta Mohan, opened to encouraging responses from music buffs. The massy teaser, launched a few months ago, was received well too. The technical crew comprises production designer Avinash Kolla, executive producer S Venkatarathnam. Srikara Studios presents the film.
Earlier, the makers had announced the the film would release in December 2022, though it was postponed for best reasons known to the team. The shoot of Sir/Vaathi was wrapped a few weeks ago. Aditya Music has acquired the music rights for the album.
