Singam, the action thriller film which features Suriya in the titular role, is one of the most iconic cop films ever produced by the Tamil film industry. The movie, which is helmed by senior filmmaker Hari, emerged as a massive commercial success, and was soon remade in Kannada, Hindi, Bengali, and Punjabi. Later, Suriya and Hari reunited for the second and third installments of the franchise, which recreated the success of the first part. As Singam is set to complete 14 years of its release, let us have a look at the reasons to revisit the film on OTT.

Here’s why Suriya and Hari’s Singam deserves a revisit

Perfect treat for the fans of masala action films

Singam is the perfect package for any cine-goer who loves a well-made masala action flick. From powerful punch lines to electrifying action sequences, and a breezy romantic sub plot, this Suriya starrer has every single ingredient which is needed to make an action-packed entertainer worth a watch.

Suriya as an action hero

Even though the National award-winner has played an action hero multiple times on screen, his role in Singam hits differently. Suriya is one of those actors who can carry police characters to near perfection. However, the exceptional character arc, the signature ‘Aruvaa Meesai’ look, and powerful dialogues made Durai Singam different from all.

Director Hari’s making

Well, even though director Hari has been going through a rough patch in his career now, his films indeed have a separate fan base. The hitmaker introduced a new style of filmmaking in Tamil cinema with his action films that are filled with racy shots, powerful punch dialogues, and unique action set pieces.

Music by Devi Sri Prasad

Devi Sri Prasad composed the songs and original score for Singam. The crackling soundtrack of the Suriya starrer, especially the title song ‘Singam Singam’, romantic numbers ‘En Idhayam’ and ‘Kadhal Vandhale’ featuring the actor along with leading lady Anushka Shetty, still remain the top favourite of Tamil cinema music lovers.

The supporting cast

Anushka Shetty was a breath of fresh air as Durai Singam’s love interest Kavya, in the film. Prakash Raj impressed as the lead antagonist Mayil Vaaganam, while Vivek, as always, shined as Head Constable Yettu Erimalai and provided much-needed comic relief. The rest of the cast, including Vijayakumar, Radha Ravi, Manorama, Nizhalgal Ravi, Sumithra, Janaki Sabesh, and others played their parts to near perfection.
