Producer Suresh Kamatchi has sparked the curiosity of Tamil cinema fans by revealing details about a project that didn't materialize. He disclosed the missed opportunity to produce a movie featuring Tamil star Simbu under the direction of Vetrimaaran.

"I had approached Veetrimaaran to make a film with him. He even narrated a story to Simbu. But, we ended up making Maanaadu with Venkat Prabhu ," Suresh said during a recent interview.

Simbu's second miss with Vetrimaaran

This will come as a big revelation to fans of Simbu as for a long time they have been anticipating his collaboration with Vetrimaaran. This isn't the first time a project involving this actor-director duo has failed to take off after the initial stages.

Simbu, not Dhanush, was Vetrimaaran's first choice for Vada Chennai. The project was also announced officially in the press. But, it didn't materialize for some unknown reasons. Years later, Vetrimaaran revived Vada Chennai with Dhanush. Vada Chennai is envisioned as a trilogy and the first part was released in cinemas in 2018 and instantly became a cult classic in Tamil cinema.

The stuggles and triumphs of Maanaadu

Simbu's decision to choose Venkat Prabhu's script for Maanaadu over Vetrimaaran's proved to be a wise one in hindsight. Maanaadu marked a successful comeback for Simbu on the big screen and emerged as the biggest commercial earner in his career.

It is also noteworthy that Maanaadu faced several challenges before production. After the initial announcement, Simbu had a fallout with producer Suresh and opted out of the project. The producer declared his intention to cast a new actor in the lead. However, after months of negotiation, Suresh and Simbu resolved their differences amicably and decided to collaborate.

Maanaadu is now streaming on SonyLIV.

Suresh is now promoting his latest production venture, Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai. Written and directed by acclaimed director Ram, the film had its world premiere recently at the International Film Festival Rotterdam and received a very encouraging response.

Yezhu Kadal Yezhu Malai stars Nivin Pauly, Anjali and Soori.
