Preferring to drop the trailer and film on the same day, i.e. on December 8, 2023, Prime Original did rob fans of The Silver Trilogy by Kerstin Gier, the opportunity to eagerly anticipate the film adaptation, Silver and the Book of Dreams, after getting a sneak peek at it. Nevertheless, the meta-dream film is now available to stream on Prime Video and offers a decent punch of teen entertainment.
The official plot synopsis reads, “Liv moves to London with her mother Ann and little sister Mia. There she meets the mysterious Henry, who belongs to a secret circle that possesses the ability of ‘lucid dreaming,’ but their dream fulfillment comes at a high price.”
The trailer, however, offers a better insight into the film, showing the coming together of four boys and a maiden, Liv, to perform a ritual from the Book of Dreams, borrowed from a friend, Anabel, to whose family the book belongs. The ritual will allow them to fulfill their dreams as well as let them dream-jump as and when they wish.
But things went awry when the nightmares of all five of them started getting fulfilled, along with their dreams. Now the five must strive against all odds to survive the life-threatening nightmares and figure out from the missing pages of The Book of Dreams as to how to reverse the effects of the ritual performed by them.
Directed by German filmmaker Helena Hufnagel, the film’s screenplay was written by Sina Flammang, Christian Ditter, and Hufnagel herself. Silver and the Book of Dreams also boasts of an ensemble cast, featuring Jana McKinnon as lead Liv Silver, Josephine Blazier as Anabel, and Riva Krymalowsk as Mia.
The film also stars Nicolette Krebitz as her mother Ann, Chaneil Kular as Arthur, Rhys Mannion as Henry, Theo Augier Bonaventure as Grayson, Niamh Moriarty as Daisy, Rory Nolan as Ernest, Gwenaelle Gillet as Florence, and Efeosa Afolabi as Jasper.
