Silambarasan TR's much-awaited gangster flick Pathu Thala release date is finally here. The film's production house made the announcement on their social media handle and stated that the film will hit screens on March 30. The news has come as a huge New Year surprise for fans of the actor. Pathu Thala stars Silambarasan, Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar in the lead and is helmed by Obeli N Krishna. Music for the film is by AR Rahman.
The film is a remake of the Kannada hit Mufti, which starred Shiva Rajkumar, Srimurali and Shanvi Srivatsav in the lead. While Shiva Rajkumar played a dreaded gangster, Srimurali played a police officer in the action entertainer, which also marked the debut of director Narthan. Mufti emerged as one of the biggest hits of Silambarasan TR. In the Tamil version, Silambarasan is said to be playing the gangster and Gautham Karthik, the police officer. Interestingly, this is the first time that the duo is teaming up for a film.
The shoot got inordinately delayed as Silambarasan had to leave for the US to take care of his father T Rajender's medical treatment. The actor wrapped up the portions as soon as he got back. Pathu Thala also marks the return of the Sillunnu Oru Kadhal combination- Krishna and composer AR Rahman. The duo will be working after more than a decade. The film is bankrolled by Studio Green.
Silambarasan also has in his kitty, the sequel to the neo-noir gangster saga Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu. The film, directed by Gautham Menon, is a duology and the first part hit screens on September 15. Silambarasan will also appear in Vijay's Pongal release Varisu in the song Thee Thalapathy, which he called a tribute to the actor. Vijay had thanked STR during the Varisu audio launch and stated that he was truly touched by the gesture.
