Salman Khan's Sikandar had multiple reasons to fail at the Box Office, and they all worked together for why the Bhaijaan-starrer couldn't beat Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava to be the highest opener of 2025
Salman Khan in Sikandar

Salman Khan's Sikandar has finally released in theatres, but the buzz is not as strong as his usual films. Many factors have contributed to Sikandar not performing as well as expected, and it is safe to say that it is a missed opportunity for the superstar yet again. The film has just crossed 1/4th of Rs. 100 crore mark and it might be tough to keep pace for more reasons than one.
Salman Khan's Sikandar has earned Rs. 26 crore at the Box Office on its first day release, according to Sacnilk. The movie has not even come close to what Vicky Kaushal's Chhaava minted on day 1 release (Rs. 31 crore opening). Thus, Sikandar was a huge opportunity missed for Salman Khan, in more ways than one. It should have been the highest opener of 2025, but is not for various reasons.

Sikandar has not received rave reviews. In fact, the movie has been bashed by most. Even Salman's biggest fans could barely save the film in such a situation.
The biggest risk taken by Salman Khan was releasing his movie on a Sunday, so close to Eid. He missed out on a huge opportunity, since Friday releases assure that the viewers would go to theatres after office on Friday night and continue an outing even on Saturday. For Sikandar, Salman heavily relied on one day - opening day - and it did not pan out as expected.
Since it was a Sunday release and not everybody has a holiday on Eid, Sikandar missed out on a big opportunity. Those who might have wanted to watch the movie as well did not visit the theatres at night. The next day could be Eid but is eventually a Monday, which means it is generally a working day. Thus, many did not turn up for night shows, which might have otherwise happened on Friday and Saturday.
When one movie ticket costs Rs. 2200, in times of OTT, the viewers get further mindful about whether it is worth spending so much on. Since Sikandar tickets were not pocket-friendly, it did not sell out since advance booking opened. But, that was also because many would have assumed that the movie would release on Friday and thus, couldn't watch the movie when it released on a Sunday.
Piracy has contributed to most loss for Sikandar, according to trade experts. The movie was available all across the internet. Even before the makers could get those links out, the damage was done and many streamed the film illegally. This led to further loss for Salman Khan's movie. Now, the wait is to know if like Salman predicted, his movie can actually hit Rs. 200 crore mark. Our guess is just as good as yours.
