Sidhant Gupta had a new outlook on Republic Day following his portrayal of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first prime minister, in the series Freedom At Midnight. The actor goes on to say that he feels a renewed sense of patriotism because of his role in the show.

Sidhant Gupta's personal definition of patriotism

Sidhant has his own special definition of patriotism. In an interaction with Hindustan Times, the actor said that it's there from the start. To be a part of Freedom At Midnight was to experience such emotions firsthand. For the sake of his nation, the actor intends to use his artistic abilities in any way he can. He informs that all people can do is strive to be proud of the country.

Sidhant reminisces about his hometown of Jammu and the fauji culture there when asked about his childhood Republic Day celebrations. Drills took place three or four days prior to Republic Day. Back in the day, their school's march-past was utterly dull. Their teacher would show up with a danda whenever his friends and he were being really naughty. As the drummers pounded the drums, he would pounce on their shoulders.

Sidhant Gupta's unique celebration in Mumbai

The actor, who now calls Mumbai home, observes the holiday in his own unique way. It's as easy as getting in their car and purchasing a small flag at the traffic light. When they hoist the flag, they experience a transformation; it leaves them with a sense that this nation is significant. His words carry an emotional weight as he reveals this.

After playing Nehru, Sidhant thinks he gets the architects' mindset of the Indian Constitution, which came into effect on January 26, 1950, a little bit better. Having endured oppression for a considerable period, they came to the realisation that they needed to elevate the people. He concluded that they valued equality and believed that letting people choose their leader would make them feel like citizens.

Freedom At Midnight is currently streaming on SonyLIV (OTTplay Premium).
