Siddy: The upcoming Aji John, I M Vijayan starrer is inspired from Dostoevsky’s classic

Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky’s classic novel Crime and Punishment has always been an inspiration to many. Debutant director Pious Raj has been making a story loosely based on the same, since long. When he was finally done, the second wave of pandemic hit.

However, the filmmaker managed to shoot his film during the lockdown, which actually helped his cause. Titled Siddy, his movie is now gearing up for its release.

Talking about the shoot, Pious told Onmanorama that the lockdown has actually helped him as he could get rid of the crowd. He could shoot conveniently in many locations of Kovalam throughout the period, without any hassles. As his subject did not require crowds, it worked to his advantage too.

The director termed his movie as a ‘Popcorn Crime Thriller’, and revealed that it will travel in another direction from a conventional noir film. Siddy will follow the protagonist and his actions. Though he didn’t add much about the story, it is expected to revolve around the protagonist and his crime.

Siddy is headlined by Aji John and I M Vijayan. The cast also includes Rajesh Sharma and Akshaya Udayakumar, who will be seen in prominent roles. Backed by Maheswaran Nandagopal, the music is composed by Ramesh Narayanan, while the songs are lyricised by Vinayak Sasikumar. Noted singers like Sooraj Santhosh and Madhushree Narayan are on board for vocals, while Karthik Nair is the DOP. Ajith Unnikrishnan is the editor.

Although the release date is yet to be announced, the director hinted that Siddy will most likely release on OTT.
