Corona Dhavan, directed by newcomer CC Nithin, stars Lukman Avaran and Sreenath Bhasi in the lead roles. The comedy film follows a group of heavy drinkers who struggle to find alcohol during the COVID-19-imposed lockdown. In a recent interview, the director shared that he is a fan of Siddique-Lal's films, and that is what inspired him to begin his film career with a comedy. Nithin emphasised that Corona Dhavan is a pure comedy film with no seriousness whatsoever.
"I have had the pleasure of working in several films, including Run Baby Run, Take Off, and SwarnaKaduva. Although these films cannot be classified as pure comedies, I chose to begin my career with a comedy film. I was inspired by the Siddique Lal films of my childhood, such as In Harihar Nagar, Vietnam Colony, and Ramji Rao Speaking. When it comes to Corona Dhavan, it has a similar treatment to Jo and Jo. Jo and Jo was the first Malayalam film to try comedy against the backdrop of Covid. However, in Jo and Jo, the second lockdown situation is portrayed, while in Corona Dhavan, the first lockdown serves as the background for the events," Nithin said to Cue Studio.
According to the director, the majority of the film was filmed in his hometown and included his friends and community members as actors.
"The movie features many actors from my village. As a result, there was no need to cast junior actors. I must say that they all did an excellent job as their performances were very natural and convincing. It was effortless for them to act in front of the camera, while I was directing them. I have known them for a long time, and I am proud of what they have achieved in this film."
Along with Sreenath and Lukman, Corona Dhavan also features Johny Antony, Dharmajan Bolgatty, and Sivaji Guruvayoor in pivotal roles. Sujoy Mohanraj who helmed the children's film, Superhero has penned the script of the movie.
