Nani’s upcoming film, Shyam Singha Roy, is the story of a software engineer-turned-filmmaker, a smoking heroine (Kirthi Shetty), tryst with law and human consciousness. Vasu (Nani) is the average Nani-film hero — goofy and clueless, but destined for greater things. Along the way, we see him gain what the film is calling ‘human consciousness,’ which is an ocean full of secrets.

In another time, Nani appears as a revolutionary writer Shyam Singha Roy in love with Devi (Sai Pallavi) who is a devadasi. Righteously, he says to her, “Nothing is greater than self respect. Once you know it’s wrong, it’s okay to even speak against God.” We also catch a blink-and-miss glimpse of Sai Pallavi dancing.

Shyam Singha Roy is directed by Rahul Sankrityan, following Vijay Devarkonda-starrer – Taxiwaala. The original story is written by Satyadev Janga.

Nani plays a dual role of Shyam Singha Roy in a period drama setting and a modern day character Vasu. Sai Pallavi and Kirthi Shetty are cast alongside him, respectively. The film also stars Madonna Sebastian, Rahul Ravindran, Murali Sharma and Abhinav Gomatam in key roles and will be released in four languages – Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.

The team recently released a single titled ‘Sirivennela,’ which is the last song penned by the prolific lyricist, Sirivennela Sitharama Sastry, who breathed his last on November 30. Anurag Kulkarni has lent the vocals and it is set to tune by Mickey J Meyer, also the music composer for the film.

The film’s revolutionary spirit was captured in the song ‘Rise of Shyam’ that called him the one who speaks up for people’s causes, strives for the truth and fights injustice. The song is penned by Krishna Kanth in Telugu, Soundararajan K in Tamil, Kaviraj in Kannada and Rafeeq Ahamed in Malayalam. Vocals are by Anurag Kulkarni, Vishal Dadlani and Cizzy.

Sanu John Varghese, who last worked on Fahadh Faasil’s Malik has been roped in as the cinematographer and Navin Nooli is the editor. The film is produced by Venkat S Boyanapalli under the banner of Niharika Entertainment.

Shyam Singha Roy will release in theaters on December 24.
