December 2021 proved to be a very productive month for Telugu cinema in general with three massive box office successes in the form of Akhanda, Pushpa The Rise and Shyam Singha Roy. While many were worried if Nani's Shyam Singha Roy was risking its big-screen entry within the first week of Pushpa The Rise's release, the former still managed to receive a warm reception from audiences. Shyam Singha Roy, besides Nani, had also starred Krithi Shetty, Sai Pallavi, Madonna Sebastian, Abhinav Gomatam and Rahul Ravindran in key roles. The film is now releasing on Netflix across four languages on January 21.

The film is told through the eyes of an emerging filmmaker Vasu, who sets out to make a short film with a reluctant actress Keerthi, that paves the way for him to convince the industry about his storytelling abilities. He eventually falls in love with Keerthi, but even before the romance blossoms, they part ways owing to Vasu's mysterious behaviour. While Vasu makes it big in films, he is shocked to see a plagiarism charge slapped against him by a publishing house that claims his story a copy of writer Shyam Singha Roy's literary works. How is Vasu's destiny linked to Shyam Singha Roy?

While Shyam Singha Roy's first hour is entertaining and light-hearted, the latter half tells the story of a social reformer who takes on issues like untouchability, casteism, the devadasi system, to name a few. While Sai Pallavi plays the role of Rosie, a devadasi, Krithi Shetty and Madonna Sebastian are cast as Vasu's girlfriend and a lawyer respectively. Mickey J Meyer had composed the music for the film for which Sanu John Verghese had cranked the camera. The reincarnation drama marks the production debut of Niharika Entertainments under Venkat Boyanapalli.

The story is written by Satyadev Janga. Navin Nooli is the editor of the film with Avinash Kolla handling duties as the art director. The film released in four languages simulatenously - Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. Rahul Sankrityan had previously directed The End and Taxiwaala.
