Shweta Bachchan Nanda on trolls targeting Abhishek Bachchan: It is upsetting for the whole family

The recent episode of Navya Naveli Nanda’s podcast, What The Hell Navya, saw two very special guests in attendance - her mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda and her grandmother Jaya Bachchan. The episode saw the trio talkabout how celebrities have to face constant scrutiny from the media and paparazzi in their lives. During the course of the conversation, the topic turned to how Abhishek Bachchan has to bear the brunt of incessant trolling.

Although the trio agreed that Abhishek had a great sense of humour when trolls targeted him, Shweta spoke of how upsetting it can be for his family members. Shweta spoke strongly of the trolling her brother received saying “This really upsets me. I dont like it when they do it to him. It’s not fair. Maybe its because he’s my younger brother and I’m more protective”.

She went on to say that she did not feel that protective when it came to her father Amitabh and added “He’s(Abhishek) constantly compared to something that is very incomparable. It’s like you’re comparing someone to something that is larger than anything. How do you expect anyone to match up. That cannot be your whole life. You have to have a success that is not measured always. I do not think its fair. I think it is nasty”.

Shweta spoke of how Abhishek’s achievements seemed to be belittled and disregarded by some people just because they fell short of Amitabh’s at times. Navya also talked about how she witnessed it almost every day.

During the podcast, Jaya also shared a delightful anecdote from Shweta and Abhishek’s school days, where she and Amitabh had once gone to collect the siblings’ report cards. The school the two studied was also attended by a number of other celebrities’ children, so no one treated them any differently. After attending the meeting, Amitabh had walked out with the children and ran into Sofia Loren and Roger Moore. Jaya could not hold back her laughter as she recalled how the three stars had looked at each other with an expression as if to communicate ‘what are our children even doing?”.
