Shriya Saran was one of the late additions to the cast of R Chandru’s much-awaited Kabzaa. And as has been the case with most of the film, her role too was shrouded in mystery, with the makers only letting go that she’s playing royalty in Kabzaa. The announcement of her casting had Shriya in character, looking resplendent as Queen Madhumathi. There was no word on her connect with Upendra’s character in the film, if they are paired together, etc., and the world will probably have to wait till March 17 to find out how pivotal her character is to the narrative.
But what she has let slip is that she plays a mother of two in Kabzaa. At the title track launch in Hyderabad, Shriya had said that when she was approached to be a part of the film, she had not publicly announced that she was a mother herself by then. And when she told Chandru, he thought it was perfect, as it would make it easier for her to play a mother onscreen. The clincher, though, she says, was Chandru’s script. Elaborating about how she came to be in the film, Shriya spoke at the launch of the second song, Namaami Namaami, which is entirely picturized on her. She said, “When Chandru sir told me the whole story of Kabzaa, I was blown away. He had the whole vision so clearly in his mind, which amazed me.”
As for the song Namaami Namaami, Shriya says that she was extremely unwell at the time, battling a severe sinusitis flare up. “And yet, it’s been so beautifully shot. Chandru sir conceptualized the song and Chinni Prakash sir choreographed it so well. This song is a devotional song for Lord Shiva and releasing it now is our Shivaratri gift. I am so glad that I got to be a part of this film,” she says.
