Shrinking, the series, created by Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and Brett Goldstein, about a therapist grappling with his own personal struggles while trying to help his patients is returning for a second season. Segel plays Jimmy in the show that combines elements of comedy and drama, while delving into the complexities of mental health and personal growth.
Shrinking will return to Apple TV+ on October 16, with a 2-episode premiere, followed by weekly episode drops every Wednesday till December 25. The season will have a 12-episode run. Key cast members include Jessica Williams, Luke Tenney, Michael Urie. Christa Miller, Lukita Maxwell and Ted McGinley, with Ted Lasso star Goldstein appearing in a special guest role.
What's Shrinking all about
At the heart of Shrinking is a family story, following a therapist, Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel), who is trying to cope with the death of his wife while raising his 17-year-old daughter, Alice (Lukita Maxwell). As they accept this new situation, they find it hard to change their attachment to each other because they are all mourning.
Jimmy’s definition of family goes beyond the four walls of his house. Apart from his best friend Brian (Michael Urie), there’s also his neighbour Liz (Christa Miller) and her husband Derek (Ted McGinley) who are just as much a part of his family. Jimmy's bosses Paul (Harrison Ford) and Gaby (Jessica Williams) also form a part of his personal and working life.
Following his personal loss, Jimmy begins to take an unconventional approach to therapy, wherein he tells his clients exactly what he thinks, which leads to changes in all of their lives. Season 2 of Shrinking will delve deeper into the complex emotional journeys of its characters, especially Jimmy's journey of healing and self-discovery and his personal relationships. The changing dynamics within the therapy practice, will take center stage, offering a vibrant blend of comedy and drama this season.
