This Dasara, the festival release from Kannada is Century Star Shivarajkumar’s Ghost, which is all set to take on big films like Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari, Tiger Nageshwara Rao and Ganpath, among others, at the box office. Directed by actor-filmmaker MG Srinivas, the film also stars Archana Jois, Jayaram and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles. Produced by Sandesh Productions, Ghost is opening simultaneously in Kannada, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi on October 19, while the Telugu version gets a delayed release on October 27.

On October 6, it was reported that the team of Ghost was looking at starting the film’s box office campaign with a fan show at 12 am on October 19. We checked in with director Srinivas and he confirmed this development, stating that the team was in the process of making it happen. Does this mean that Ghost will have early morning shows (EMS) too? “That’s the plan and we are in talks with exhibitors about the logistics. We are working towards making it happen and should have clarity in a couple of days,” says Srinivas. With Viay’s Leo not getting early morning shows in Tamil Nadu, and no word on whether the film will begin its box office campaign with 5/6 am shows in Bengaluru, the team of Ghost is likely to try and build up a good initial buzz with early morning shows.

Ghost, according to the filmmaker, will release in about 350 screens in Karnataka. Barring Bengaluru and Mysuru, where the competition with the other big releases will be tough, Srinivas is positive that Ghost will be the movie of choice of audiences in other parts of the state this Dasara. The action heist thriller, which transpires majorly in a prison over a 48 hour time-frame, features Shivarajkumar’s voice in the Kannada, Tamil and Telugu versions. The team is believed to have used an AI tool for the Hindi and Malayalam versions, making the dubbing almost as if the Century Star has done it.
